Roseville, CA - The Eldorado Hotel Casino Reno Westcar Late Model Series held its 2007 competitor meeting on Saturday afternoon in Roseville, CA at the Placer County Fairgrounds. More than 20 teams attended to weigh in on several minor rules changes proposed by the series.

The asphalt touring series for Western Late Model cars is preparing to embark on a landmark third season of competition at some of the top race tracks in the West.

Headlining the rules changes were new rules governing engine packages and weights. The crate engines will continue to run at 2900 pounds. Iron head motors that run a new restrictor plate option will also run at 2900.

Iron head motors without the restrictor plate will compete at 3075 pounds, a 25 pound decrease as compared to 2006. In 2006, 75% of Westcar events were won by crate engines, and the 25 pound decrease for iron head motors should help to level out the series.

Another rules addition is the official legalization of the tube replica Camaro clip. The clip was legal in 2006 but not specifically in the rule book. Every track running the Western Late Model-type car in Northern California is allowing these clips.

Drivers competing with these cars will be required to mount 40 pounds of weight to the front of the car, but still will run at their specified weight.

Westcar promoter Jeff Macey, who was announced as the General Manager at Altamont Motorsports in Tracy, CA, announced that the series will add two races at the recently remodeled half-mile, to bring the total calendar to eight races.

The dates join the previously announced three each at Ukiah Speedway and Shasta Raceway Park.

Races will pay a minimum $1500 to win and $300 to start in 2007, with positions 10th on forward able to buy a set of tires with their winnings. Several events in 2007 are slated to pay $3000 to win, including the season opener at Ukiah Speedway.

“I’m more excited about the $300 to start than the winning,” Macey said. “Only one guy gets the money at the top, so it means less.”

The Eldorado Hotel Casino Reno Westcar Late Model Series kicks off Saturday, March 31st at Ukiah Speedway with a $3000 to win, 100 lap event on the quarter-mile. The event serves as the season opener for the historic race track in the north state.
