Huge Westcar Late
Model Series opener on tap at
Roseville

Gridley, Calif. –
A stacked field of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and Westcar
stars are preparing for Saturday’s twin-.44 shootout races Saturday
night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
NASCAR
Camping World Series West drivers Moses Smith of Tempe, AZ and Johnathon
Gomez of Twin Falls, ID, from the Drive for Diversity program, will
be in action. Both drivers will be using the valuable laps in Late
Models to prepare for the following week’s West race at All
American.
Other expected
drivers include 19 year-old Bobby Hodges of Carson City, NV, who was
the 2008 Westcar Late Model Series Sportsman of the Year,
Sacramento’s Jonathan Mawhinney, 2005 Westcar Rookie of the Year
Bobby Butler, and Drive for Diversity driver Juan Pitta of Galt.
Other probable
entries include Roseville Toyota 100 runner-up Jason Romero of
Cameron Park,
Salt Lake City youngster Mike Self driving for Mike Naake,
New York
youngster Julia Landauer, 2008 All American Speedway points
runner-up John Moore, and Westcar career main event wins leader Gary
Glenn of
Orangevale.
Westcar veterans
Brian Koski of
Pleasanton
and David Hulsey of Manteca are also expected to be in attendance on
Saturday night.
Drivers with
Westcar Series licenses will be competing for their share of a
$14,000 points fund, which includes $4000 to the champion and $1000
to the 10th place driver in the standings. Drivers in
races designated “w/ Westcar stars” will be ranked based on Westcar
licenses. The highest ranked Westcar driver in Saturday’s races will
be awarded first place Westcar points.
The series will
also only take competitors best 10 finishes in the 16 round
campaign.
Gates open for
the pits at 1 p.m. on Saturday with racing beginning at
6:30 p.m.
