Sponsor Appreciation Day & 100 laps of Late Models at Altamont Raceway

Tracy, Calif. – Altamont Raceway presents “Sponsor Appreciation Day” on Saturday evening, featuring the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Models (w/ Westcar stars) going to battle for 100 laps on the fastest half-mile in the west.

The five divisions, three venue program is a bargain at just $12 for adult admissions. Team sponsors with RSVP’d tickets, will pay just 2-for-1 price and be treated to a barbeque lunch in the Turn 4 Club. Teams competing Saturday may email Jim Becker by Wednesday at jbecker@AltamontRacing.com to RSVP.

Philpott takes overall win, Hodges highest finishing Westcar driver at Altamont

Tracy, Calif. – Justin Philpott of Tracy, CA claimed the overall win in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Model 100 at Altamont Motorsports Park, in the second round of the Tri-Holiday Classic Series. Bobby Hodges of Carson City, NV led Westcar competitors to finish second.

Philpott’s win in the Western Late Models came after a late race restart with five laps remaining. Due to a prolonged caution period on the opening lap of the event, the 100 lap feature was shortened to 50.

Westcar & North State Challenge All-Star event postponed

Due to the fires caused by Friday nights lightening storm, Ukiah Speedway must cancel its race scheduled for Saturday June 28th. As the thick smoke covers the Mendocino skies, Ukiah Speedway and the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds has transformed into a fire camp.

The track promoter was informed late Saturday night, as his motocross riders raced under the lights, there was a possibility of the invasion of over 600 fire fighters and crew taking over the pit area, racetrack, and various other parts of the fairgrounds.

Officials from Westcar and Northstate are working on a make-up date at this time.

Cooksey scores Big Dog #2 win at Altamont against huge field

Gridley, Calif. – Doff Cooksey Jr. of Brentwood, CA picked up his NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Model win of 2008, Sunday afternoon, at Altamont Motorsports Park as part of the Noceti Grupe Inc. Big Dog #2.

Cooksey, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, won the 75 lap feature ahead of Carson City, NV’s Bobby Hodges and claimed $2000 for the win.

Westcar Series stars head to Altamont for “Big Dog #2” this Sunday

Gridley, Calif. – The Westcar Late Model Series will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series as part of the Noceti Grupe Inc Big Dog #2 at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, CA this Sunday afternoon.

32 entries have been received for the $2000 to win, 75 green flag lap feature on the half-mile asphalt oval. Posted awards for Sunday’s action totals $18,425. The three round Big Dog Series pays an additional $6500 points fund as well.

Exciting Tri-Holiday Classic sees Spurgeon claim win

Tracy, Calif. – Saturday’s Tri-Holiday Classic #1 “Military Appreciation Day” saw Altamont Motorsports Park dodge wet weather to successfully pull off a huge day of Late Model action, with Tim Sprugeon of Danville, CA winning the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (w/ Westcar stars) 100.

Incoming Altamont points leader Guy Guibor of Manteca, CA led the 27 car field to green in the NASCAR Western Late Model event. The NASCAR program continues to maintain a near 26 car average through six races in 2008. Saturday’s Late Model event was the first of three rounds in the Tri-Holiday Series, which pays over $60,000 in prize monies.

Fensler takes $3000 “Tribute to American Graffiti” Altamont opener

Tracy, Calif. – Jason Fensler showed again why he is a force to be reckoned with in the West Coast late model scene, putting on a dominating performance to win the Noceti Grupe Inc. “Tribute to American Graffiti” at Altamont Motorsports Park on Sunday.

The weekend’s events were round one of the Big Dog series, and the first points race of the year for Altamont, NASCAR, and Westcar points. More than $40,000 in awards were posted for the two-day, four-division program.

COMPETITION BULLETIN FOR SEASON OPENER:

A county ruling this week has required us to lower our sound for the 2008 racing season. You will be required to run the Flowmaster Part # 54033-12 muffler, #350-400 y-pipe, #MB400 90* PIPE, OR equivalent, with a Super Trapp. This system is available at most racing stores, and also available from Ryan Philpott at (209) 607-8458 or Phil Perry at (916) 408-4718.

Westcar announces 2008 schedule and massive points fund

$78,500 in points monies for the 11 round tour

Gridley, CA – The Westcar Late Model Series has announced its 2008 schedule of events, with competition taking place at the half-mile Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, CA and the quarter-mile Ukiah Speedway in Ukiah, CA.

11 points paying races and one non-points event make up the slate, with one additional track under discussion.
